At Trinity College's 173rd Commencement Hartford, Conn., USA, May 23 - Trinity College today celebrated the accomplishments and leadership of S. Chusang Rinpoche, presenting him with an honorary degree during the institution's 173rd Commencement.
Rinpoche is the spiritual leader of the World Buddhist Cultural Exchange in
South Korea and vice president of the international organization of Gelugpa, the dominant Buddhist sect in Tibet and Mongolia. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Divinity, honoris causa.
Other honorary degree recipients were:Chinua Achebe,a Nigerian novelist who is considered the father of the African novel;Ricardo E. Alegr? director
of the Center of Advanced Studies of Puerto Rico;John Brademas, former
president of New York University and a former Democratic congressman from Indiana;Jim Calhoun, head coach of the men's basketball team at the
University of Connecticut;Marsha J. Evans, executive director of the Girl
Scouts of America;Lorraine Monroe, executive director and founder of the
School Leadership Academy at the Center for Educational Innovation in New York City;Rita Moreno, an Academy Award-winning actress; andWalter A. Persegati, the former secretary general and treasurer of the Vatican Monuments, Museums and Art Galleries.
